OFFICE OF THE MUNICIPAL AGRICULTURIST- Program Thrusts

The Office of the Municipal Agriculturist (OMA) of Calubian, Leyte has the following priority program thrusts under the Ginintuang Masaganang Ani (GMA) programs, namely;

GRAINS (Rice and Corn)

1. Utilization of hybrid/certified seeds under the plant-now-pay-later program of the office
2. Integration of organic rice varieties and the adoption of the organic farming technologies using the SRI technique
3. Implementation of Farmers' Field School (FFS) for Corn
4. Proposed adoption of the Farmers' Scientist Training Program (FSTP) for corn (2009)
5. Continuous monitoring/surveillance of plant pest and diseases.

LIVESTOCK

1. Animal dispersal/redispersal program for swine, goat, cattle, and carabao.
2. Livestock disease prevention and control through the following interventions;
a. Hemmoraghic septicemia vaccination
b. Anti-rabies vaccination
c. Iron dextran injection
d. Deworming/defluking of swine and ruminants
e. Treatment of different diseases.
f. Vitamins supplementation
3. Disease outbreak eradication and control through livestock inspection and issuance of shipping permits to outgoing animals
4. Conduct seminars on Livestock production
5. Technical assistance

HIGH VALUED COMMERCIAL CROPS (HVCC)

1. Provision of high quality vegetable seeds
2. Conduct of Vegetable Commercialization seminar and on farm techno-demo
3. Distribution of farm inputs such as liquid fertilizer and others
4. Food processing especially for peanut and banana
5. Distribution of planting materials, e.g. mango seedlings

FISHERIES

1. Construction of artificial reefs
2. Seaweeds test planting
3. Support for mangrove reforestation
4. Strengthening of fisherfolks associations
5. Distribution of passive fishing gears with the assistance from BFAR Region 8
6. Fish Sanctuary maintenance
7. Livelihood assistance for fisherfolks
8. Regulatory and technical services

OTHER SERVICES

1. Organization/strengthening of cooperatives
2. Accessing funding support from local/national and foreign sources for livelihood support
3. Market promotion through agri-industrial fairs
4. Other related activities
